For the band's final weekly release, at least until such time as this starts again, which will be a mere blink of the eye in geologic time, we bring you Same. A song in which... Boy meets girl. Boy falls for girl. Boy leaves girl. Boy realizes he still loves girl, but the opportunity is lost. Sad stuff...but there is no reason why it can't be wrapped in a lovely pop song. But don't be fooled by its shiny exterior...the heart of this song is as complex as the plot is simple.

Can you dig it?

Whoa Dizzytag:whoadizzy.com,2005:Post/61560722010-12-09T16:00:00-08:002011-07-31T07:18:04-07:00Won't Wash Away

After 13 consecutive weeks of on-time delivery of new original songs, we had to slow down a bit for number 14. This new one, Won’t Wash Away, is a slow building, thoughtful song that required a bit more thoughtful work on the production, too. Hope you didn’t mind the wait.

Whoa Dizzytag:whoadizzy.com,2005:Post/61560712010-11-25T16:00:00-08:002011-07-31T07:18:20-07:00Are we there yet?

Relationships are hard. Some flash hot, but quickly sizzle out. Others develop with a slow simmer, but evaporate as personalities evolve. If we are lucky, we find a recipe for making it last.

But like anything trying to last, a relationship is bound to be good and bad, hot and cold, bitter and sweet. Forever Road is a nod to the difficulties of keeping something going forever...and the joys of its success.

As you might guess from the artwork, this is the song Whoa Dizzy plays when we're feeling overwhelmed by alienation and existential despair. Or if we all just happen to be wearing our trenchcoat and fedora ensembles.

This is one of Nick's first songwriting efforts. Eric gave him an assignment: write a blues tune and have it ready by the next rehearsal. Feeling Blue is the result. We break it out nearly every time we perform in case someone in the audience is feeling sad and alone - or if people just want to dance.

Whoa Dizzytag:whoadizzy.com,2005:Post/61560692010-11-11T16:00:00-08:002011-07-31T07:18:55-07:00Now Cool It.

Suika is the Japanese word for watermelon. Years ago in Japan, Eric spent a memorable day in Fukushima at a samurai era re-enactment festival with his good friends Milan and Ria (best blues singers ever to come out of Slovakia) watching horse races, eating fried squid on a stick, and drinking sake from a square wooden cup. On the way back, stopped at a roadside stand and came home with a lot of suika and this nutty little song.

You know what they say about taking off all your clothes. Not exactly what the Dizz had in mind here, but you get the idea. Remember those hot summer nights? Remember? Yeah, it's raining today, I guess the truly gritty Northwest crowd would rather have it that way. It just makes the coffee taste a little better. Brew one up while you hit play on this little R&B groove thang. It's called Makes Me Sweat, and it's what you get in Week #10.

Whoa Dizzytag:whoadizzy.com,2005:Post/61560672010-10-28T17:00:00-07:002011-07-31T07:19:30-07:00Killing them with swing

We love messing around with songs. Rockin' em when you think they should swing and...well, this version of the Not Fooled gives you the softer side of last week's face melter. Eric's guitar touches in this baby leaving you wanting more. Having flexibility makes everything better...don't you agree?

When did it happen that news became entertainment? And when did entertainment become pumping up non-news? It is frustrating enough to make you rant and rave. This song represents one of those moments. The Week 8 super duper rock extravaganza is lead singer Nick Lutes' second contribution to the Song of the Week canon. This face melting track is exploited with none too little gusto by his backing band. You could say the group have some issues about the way we get information in this country, and also who's paid for the right to be in charge of it...now let's let the song and the band fill in the sonic blanks.

Can atheists have the sense of community and connection to their neighbors and the world that a church provides in a way that a bowling league, Moose Lodge, or book club can't match?

It seemed like a funny idea that they would start their own church. Not long after this song was written, National Public Radio (motto: 'Voice of the Government whispering in your ear') did a story about a group on the East Coast that formed a 'church' with weekly meetings, community service and social events for atheists. Truth is always at least as strange as fiction.

Whoa Dizzy ask the eternal question: Is it better in the city, or way out in the country?

A little straight ahead rockabilly stomper gets released for Week 6, and the group appears to be quite at home.

This is (almost!) two minutes of pure energy. Nothing sophisticated, but we couldn't resist putting Jordanaires-style backing vocals on a three chord rocker anyway. Just having fun.

This makes six weeks in a row that David has released the song on time, haven't screwed up once!

Whoa Dizzy breaks out another laid back swing number for all the working stiffs out there. Let's be glad we've got jobs in Week #5. But seriously, does it have to be feast or famine? Can't we strike a balance?

For week 3, lead singer Nick Lutes brings us a heartfelt, headstrong song about heartbreak. Inspired among other things by the great rockers from America's heartland, Nick's first release for Song of the Week is one of the strongest songs he's ever written. A new addition to the Whoa Dizzy canon, the song is likely to remain a staple at Dizzy shows for years to come.

Officially released on Sept. 10, 2010, it's Whoa Dizzy's tribute to Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Brought to you in the smoky blue lounge tones of the Whoa Jazzy Quartet.

So break out that bottle of Wild Turkey, turn on the lava lamp, and crank up this tune while you kick back and ruminate on the journey to the heart of the American dream.

Hey everyone, Nick here. Wow...here we are, sharing with the world our unique set of sounds...all with the goal of melting someone's face off. Don't worry, it doesn't hurt. Don't you agree? I have to admit, when Eric brought this one, I wasn't sure I could pull of the talking/singing angle.
When you are listening to it, don't you get the feeling that you really outta stand up and shout some praise? If for no other reason than to acknowledge that apparently there are some actions other than caution and sin-free living rewarded in the afterlife. I find it refreshing to think that the boundaries are inclusive of dancing, deliriously whilst in the coils of a devilishly, deadly reptile. I mean if you think about it, the story ofSnakehandling sets a standard that says, "You can pretty much do any foolish thing with the love of the spirit in your heart (please feel free to choose your own spirit to praise)...and it can elicit redemption from on high." Well here's hoping that the boundaries are as expansive as all that. Hopefully my foolish, and praise-worthy, acts don't end with snake venom running through my veins...but it sure is fun to sing about it.

We've added some new photos to the site from our last two shows. It's been a long hiatus over the last several months while the band has been working to finish the next studio album. More gigs are coming this summer, and we're starting it off by playing a Memorial Day/Birthday party this Saturday. Also coming this summer will be the official release of 29 brand new songs. The recording process is nearly complete, and will result in at least two, possibly three new albums.

The battle continues... day jobs, families, and a rock n' roll band.

Yesterday spent a few hours organizing the several hundred photos of the Dizz (and all the photos of BACONMOON) while I was in there. Got them all put together by date, did some re-editing, and selected a few more shots we haven't been using before. After that, uploaded all the new edits to the website and organized the photo gallery by event also. I think it lays out a little better.

There's been a debate within the band regarding the new songs, with 29 of them, we're trying to figure out if we should do two albums or three. It seems we may be leaning toward three shorter albums, but the final decision has not yet been made. About half the songs are mixed, which means we're on track for a summer 2010 release.

When it comes to html. It makes me sick. Click, ClickClick, ClickClick, Click
Click, Click
Click, Click
Click, Click
Click, Click
Click, Click
Click, Click
Click, Click
Click, Click
Click, Click
Click, Click
Click, Click
Oh yay, I finally posted the new song with a picture that's actually a link, and there's lyrics and a story and a news flash and I blogged about it and it only took me an hour and a half. Whooppee!

At least the song rocks.

Well, figure skating is on, and I'm working on some fresh email designs for the mailing list. Email designs you say? Yes, email designs.

Well it ain't rocket science, and it ain't as cool as writing and recording a fabulous song, but it will be a vital component of our delivery system. When the new songs are ready (and they almost are), we'll need a way to get them out to our teaming mass of fans, or horde if you will.

I hope people will be prepared to receive this amazing new technology we've only just discovered. What will people think? Have they heard of mail that can be sent electronically?

We can only hope.

Well it's been a few weeks, but it is important to note the gig at Speedway Brewing Co. on Jan. 8 was a success. There were lots of familiar faces, and even a few overseas fans dropped in for a little rock fest. The vibe was fantastic, and we really appreciate all the support!

This last Friday (1/22), Cheri came back into the studio to work out the kinks on a few bass parts for the new recording. She laid down brand new takes for what I'm now calling the Alien Trilogy; "Confusion" (an emerging fan favorite), "It's True," and "Kidnapped." I guess we were just in an outer spaced kind of mood.

She also worked on a bit of a rewrite for the bass part on one of Nick's songs, "Hey Let's Go."

The glaciation continues...

Man, what a great response. Thanks to everyone for chiming in at the guestbook. It's so great to feel the love. See you tonight at the Clipper. db

Band makes 28 (or is it 29?) newly recorded songs. Problem is, someone has to mix them. I'm using Pro Tools now for recording, but I only nominally understand how it works, so some of this is going to be like climbing a mountain in the dark with no flashlight.

It's going to be interesting, since ultimately Whoa Dizzy are maximalists (is that a word?) when it comes to recording, the challenge will be to have everything be heard without it turning to mush. I'll be taking by best stab at imitating a Tony Visconti production style, which of course it will sound nothing like, but at least I will know it can be done (see Bowie's Reality, Man Who Sold The World, et al). The first song being mixed is called "Alaska (Don't Let Me Forget)," which is a very uncatchy title to a very catchy song...

This feels weird, are you sure this is legal? It's been a fair bit of work getting the web site up, but I can't wait until our new mixes are ready so we can start getting them out there for people to hear.
